  • Worth falling off the wagon for

I thought I'd share the recipe that makes the brownies I got all guilty over.

    Dinah Shore’s Brownies

    ¾ cup butter or margarine

4 squares chocolate (or 12 tbsp cocoa and 4 tbsp oil)

    3 eggs

    1 ½ cup sugar

    1 ½ tsp vanilla

    ¾ cup flour

    ½ cup nuts (optional)

Melt butter and chocolate together and cool.  Beat eggs, sugar and vanilla until thick.  Add cool chocolate mixture and beat.  Mix in flour and nuts.  Put in 8 x 8 pan and bake at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes.

  • Slow Dance

I borrowed this from the blog of someone else, but thought it was worthy of sharing.  I have since found out that it was notwritten by a teenager with cancer, but by a poet named David Weatherford.  The sentiment is still worth sharing.  Check out more of his work at www.davidlweatherford.com

     SLOW DANCE

     Have you ever watched kids

     On a merry-go-round?

     Or listened to the rain

     Slapping on the ground?

Ever followed a butterfly's erratic flight?

Or gazed at the sun  into the fading night?

     You better slow down.

     Don't dance so fast.

     Time is short.

     The music won't last.

Do you run through each day

     On the fly?

When you ask How are you?

     Do you hear the reply?

When the day is done !

Do you lie in your bed

     With the next hundred chores

     Running through your head?

     You'd better slow down

     Don't dance so fast.

     Time is short.

     The music won't last.

     Ever told your child,

     We'll do it tomorrow?

     And in your haste,

     Not see his sorrow?

     Ever lost touch,

     Let a good friendship die

     Cause you never had time

     To call and say, "Hi"

     You'd better slow down.

     Don't dance so fast.

     Time is short.

     The music won't last.

When you run so fast to get somewhere You miss half the fun of  getting there.

When you worry and hurry through your day, It is like an unopened gift....

     Thrown away.

     Life is not a race.

     Do take it slower

     Hear the music

  • True Confessions: I fell off the wagon

My addiction is sugar and chocolate, and I gave in to both last night.  The craving wa so bad I actually made a batch of brownies from scratch!  And then.....I ate almost half the pan!  While they were still hot and extra gooey.  And then....I felt nauseated for the rest of the night.  I never actually got sick though.  So my co-workers got a treat this morning when I brought in what was left (sorry Andrea I couldn't leave them at home).  I'm sure they're not as good to them as they were to me.  I pray I don't get a craving like that again for a while.  My blood sugar is about 20 points above usual this morning , but I suppose it could be worse.

I really do have to crawl back up on the wagon.  I need to lose at least 40 more pounds and lately the scale's been going in the wrong direction for that.  I seem to have misplaced my self-control.  Time to drag out my books and menu plans and start all over.  1200 calorie ADA diet here I come!!!
